This candidate has spoken about this issue more than once. Each statement is shown with its own source.

Wants public construction contracts awarded through open, labour-neutral procurement.

  • Introduced a private member's bill for labour-neutral, merit-based procurement on public construction projects
  • Argues restricting who can work on public projects drives cost overruns amid labour shortages
  • Wants contracts open to every qualified worker and contractor
“Here's the simple question: if labour shortages are driving cost overruns, why would government limit who can work on public projects? Public infrastructure belongs to all of us. The opportunity to build it should be open to every qualified worker and contractor.”

Argues government should think like a taxpayer: open procurement means better value and accountability.

  • Argues restricted competition on public projects costs taxpayers through overruns
  • Says open, fair procurement delivers better value and stronger accountability
“At a time when families have to think carefully about every dollar, government should think like a taxpayer too. When competition is restricted, taxpayers lose. When procurement is open and fair, communities get better value and stronger accountability.”
