Supports amendments only to the HPOA, pending a thorough analysis of the act.

  • Asked by the HPOA candidate questionnaire (Psychologists of BC for Ethical Care and Governance): "Will you commit to repealing the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) and replacing it with legislation, built with the professions and the public, that keeps politics out of health care?"
  • Answer: I support amendments only (not full repeal).
  • Says the act's core objectives of modernizing oversight and enhancing public safety are not problematic in themselves.
  • Intends to conduct a thorough analysis to further inform his position if elected.

This lengthy 276-page legislative act requires improvement based on my preliminary research; however, the core objectives of modernizing oversight and enhancing public safety are not problematic in and of themselves. Should I be elected as an MLA, I intend to conduct a thorough analysis to further inform my position, but I am currently unable to commit to a definitive stance on the matter without further review.”
