Supports amending the HPOA rather than full repeal.

  • Asked by the HPOA candidate questionnaire (Psychologists of BC for Ethical Care and Governance): "Will you commit to repealing the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) and replacing it with legislation, built with the professions and the public, that keeps politics out of health care?"
  • Open to reviewing HPOA provisions for amendments
  • Amend duty-to-report-discrimination rules for clients
  • Unelected boards: find common ground on democracy and evidence-based care
  • Supports adequate oversight and alignment with UNDRIP

“I will be honest, "keep politics out of healthcare" is not a slogan I tend to particularly embrace. That said there are two points in the HPOA that I would need clarification on, and be open to reviewing further for amendments. Where the duty to report discrimination is about clients, I believe that this should be amended, since clients will simply be discouraged from seeking care or will straight up lie to their care providers.”

Says government's core job is protecting services while growing the economy to bring down debt.

  • Defends provincial spending as a response to tariffs and global shocks
  • Points to LNG exports, the new gas pipeline and manufacturing growth as the debt-reduction path
  • Made the point at the Oct 20 Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade all-candidates forum
Show their words & source (reported remarks)
“Being in government is about making choices. When the going gets tough… the number one job of the government is to make sure that healthcare, education, and other services are provided to its citizens, and that business is supported. As we grow our economy, as we export more LNG, as the new gas pipeline comes in, and as we grow our manufacturing, we invest in our diversity and we will bring down our debt.”

Greens' Fair Share Act: 5%/10%/15% tax on $50M/$100M/$1B+ assets; $22B in year one to pay down debt.

  • Proposes 5% tax on $50M+ assets, 10% on $100M+, 15% on $1B+
  • Says it would generate $22B in year one, $5.4B the year after, used to pay down provincial debt
  • Made the point at the Oct 20 Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade all-candidates forum
Show their words & source (reported remarks)
“It's a 5% tax on those who have assets worth $50 million, 10% on those with $100 million, and 15% on those with a billion. It's going to generate $22 billion for the province in the first year, and $5.4 billion the year after… We're going to use that immediately to pay down part of our provincial debt.”
