Jo Morphy

Candidate for Mayor

In their own words

This candidate hasn’t listed a campaign website or social account with the Town. That says nothing about them as a candidate — it just means less of their material is published online for us to summarise.

Where they stand

Every candidate in this race is shown against the same 16 issues, in the same order, whether or not we’ve found something for each one. Why we do it this way.

Healthcare

Will there be a doctor and a hospital when we need one?

Jo Morphy wants a full-service South Muskoka hospital with at least 60 beds and local obstetrics, and rejects the transfer model.

  • Wants a full-service hospital, not a smaller one, while the population is growing; supports a minimum of 60 acute-care beds.
  • Opposes the transfer model: once she arrives at her local hospital the only acceptable transfer is for immediate specialized care.
  • Supports maintaining fully functioning obstetrics in South Muskoka.
  • Would not commit municipal taxpayer funding to a plan that leaves South Muskoka behind.
  • Does not support the current MAHC redevelopment model as equitable for South Muskoka residents.

“I do not like the transfer model. I dislike the idea that I have to triage whatever situation I am dealing with before deciding to go to Bracebridge or Orillia because I do not want to end up as far away as Huntsville.”
