Will I be able to afford to live here?
Davey: highest-density development belongs near the ION so residents can reach work and school without a car.
- With affordability the #1 issue, put the highest density near the ION.
- Owning a vehicle costs nearly $1,400/month; transit-proximate density is the affordability answer.

“The answer to this is not only a transit solution but an affordability solution. Owning a vehicle is extremely expensive. The all-in cost (gas, insurance, depreciation etc.) is nearly $1,400 per month! With affordability being the #1 issue we must ensure the highest density development occurs near the ION, and less the suburbs, for convenient transportation to places of employment, schooling and shopping without the necessity of owning a vehicle. Kitchener's Official plan and Growing Together plans have largely addressed the planning aspect, it's up to the builders to follow suit.”
