Wendy Creighton

Candidate for Ward 8 Councillor

In their own words

This candidate hasn’t listed a campaign website or social account with the Town. That says nothing about them as a candidate — it just means less of their material is published online for us to summarise.

Where they stand

Every candidate in this race is shown against the same 16 issues, in the same order, whether or not we’ve found something for each one. Why we do it this way.

Creighton: a practical, data-driven Vision Zero - fix the highest-risk intersections and streets first.

  • Use collision, speeding and near-miss data to identify highest-risk locations.
  • Prioritize lighting, markings, crossings, sidewalks, traffic calming where needed.

“I believe every resident should be able to walk, bike, take transit or drive through and get home safely. Our approach should be practical and focused on the places where the data shows there is a real safety problem. As Councillor, I would: Request or review any current or proposed Ward 8 road safety reviews using collision, speeding and near miss data to identify our highest risk intersections and streets. Prioritize practical improvements such as better lighting, clearer markings, pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, traffic calming and safer intersections where they are actually needed. Work with residents, neighbourhood associations, City staff and Waterloo Regional Police to identify problem areas and make sure enforcement is targeted where speeding, distracted driving and dangerous driving are occurring. Pay particular attention to any areas with a high concentration of seniors, children and people with disabilities who may need more time and safer infrastructure to cross our streets. Make sure road safety is considered when new developments and road reconstruction projects are approved, rather than trying to fix safety problems after the fact. Support better data collection, including near miss information, so we are not waiting for someone to be seriously injured before identifying a dangerous location”
