Alice Li

Candidate for Councillor - Ward 11 (University-Rosedale)

In their own words

This candidate hasn’t listed a campaign website or social account with the Town. That says nothing about them as a candidate — it just means less of their material is published online for us to summarise.

Where they stand

Every candidate in this race is shown against the same 16 issues, in the same order, whether or not we’ve found something for each one. Why we do it this way.

Housing

Will I be able to afford to live here?

Alice Li: 'Housing is a human right'; increase supply, protect affordable rentals, invest in permanent solutions for the homeless.

  • Prioritize increasing housing supply, protecting existing affordable and rental housing, and investing in permanent housing solutions for people experiencing homelessness.
  • Also prioritize the quality and safety of housing.

“Housing is a human right. I know firsthand that housing is one of the biggest expenses for many Torontonians, myself included. Too many people are only one missed rent payment away from losing their home. On City Council, I would prioritize increasing the supply of housing, protecting existing affordable and rental housing, and investing in permanent housing solutions for people experiencing homelessness. I would also prioritize the quality and safety of housing.”

  • Invest in crisis response, Streets to Homes, supportive housing, social services and dedicated staff.
  • Reinforced by personal experience: an unprovoked assault at Bloor-Yonge left her with a spinal disc herniation.

“A year ago, I experienced an unprovoked assault at Bloor-Yonge and suffered a spinal disc herniation. With Toronto in a housing crisis, many people are experiencing homelessness, hunger, or mental health crises and need professional support. It reinforced for me how important it is to have the right resources in the right places. We need to invest in crisis response, Streets to Homes, supportive housing, social services, and dedicated staff. Everyone deserves to be safe and feel safe.”

Transit

Can I get where I need to go without driving?

This candidate has spoken about this issue more than once. Each statement is shown with its own source.

Alice Li would champion TTC fare capping so daily transportation is more affordable for riders who depend on it.

  • Would champion TTC fare capping to make daily transportation more affordable for people who rely on it most.
  • Many transit riders depend on the TTC to get to work and earn a living and cannot afford a car.
“We can all relate to skipping meals to save money, myself included. Too many residents are being priced out of this city. Many transit riders depend on the TTC to get to work and earn a living, and cannot afford a car. I will champion TTC fare capping to make daily transportation more affordable for the people who rely on it most.”

Alice Li (9 years at the TTC) would make transit reliable, affordable, safe and accessible, managing the budget as a CPA.

  • TTC should be reliable, affordable, safe and accessible for everyone.
  • Would bring nine years of TTC experience (rider and worker perspectives) plus CPA, CA accounting/audit background to manage the City budget.
“TTC. We need a City Councillor who truly cares about public transit, while bringing technical expertise. My nine years of experience with the TTC have given me unique insight into both the rider and worker perspectives. Transit should be reliable, affordable, safe, and accessible for everyone. As a CPA, CA, I would bring my background in accounting and audit to manage the City's budget and improve transit for all.”
